✔️ Indications of Losarva 50mg Tablet

1. Hypertension: Losarva is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It can be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents, such as thiazide diuretics.
2. Renal Protection in Type-2 Diabetic Patients with Proteinuria: Losarva is indicated to delay the progression of renal disease in hypertensive type-2 diabetics with significant proteinuria (urinary albumin to creatinine ratio >300 mg/g).

✔️ Pharmacology

Losartan Potassium is an orally active, non-peptide angiotensin II receptor blocker. It selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, which is found in many tissues such as vascular smooth muscle, adrenal gland, kidneys, and the heart. This action reduces vasoconstriction and the release of aldosterone, both of which are responsible for increasing blood pressure.

• Starting Dose: 50 mg once daily.
• Maintenance Dose: If 50 mg once daily is insufficient, the dose may be adjusted to 25 mg twice daily or increased as needed.
• Volume-Depleted Patients: For patients treated with high-dose diuretics, start with 25 mg once daily.
• Maximum Daily Dose: 100 mg.
• Administration: Can be taken once or twice daily with or without food.

Special Populations:

• Patients up to 75 Years: No initial dosage adjustment is required.
• Patients Over 75 Years: Start with 25 mg once daily due to limited clinical experience.
